Soong Ching-ling, wife of Sun Yat-sen, was elected a leading member of the World Peace Council in 1950 and won the Lenin Peace Prize. She sponsored the Asian and Pacific Area Peace Conference in 1952 and led the delegation to India, Burma, Pakistan, and Indonesia in 1956 (with speeches compiled into "When Good Neighbours Meet"). She also founded the China Welfare Institute and is Honorary President of the People's Republic of China.
